An important part of being a teacher is helping young people make informed decisions. Students often look to you for advice and counsel on life choices, particularly when they are considering their next move after school, so it’s important to be clued up on all options, not just university.

Awareness of apprenticeships is high among teachers (91%) but there’s lots more to learn about everything they have to offer your students. For example, did you know that there are over 45 Higher Apprenticeships in England where young people can study up to degree level? Apprenticeships are not just options for the more traditional industries such as manufacturing and mechanics; young people can get in and go far with employers such as ASOS, Barclays, IBM and Sky in a range of careers. Plus, they are a real opportunity to get on the jobs ladder – so you can let your students know that they don’t have to choose between going to university or an apprenticeship, they can earn and learn together.
